WORSHIP
Our Daily times with God
Daily Bible Study
Psalm 119:
14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great
riches. 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.20
My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times.97 Oh, how
I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
What do we learn from the Psalmist heart in these passages?
What do you love about God's word?
Why is it is important that you are this passionate about God's word?
Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
According to this passage how often do you think God expects you to read God's word?
What attitude do you feel this passage teaches us to have in reading God's word?
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
How does God's word help you from this passage?
Jeremiah 23:28
Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has
my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?"
declares the LORD. 29 "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD,
"and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
How is God's word like grain? Like fire? Like a Hammer?
Has God's word been having the effect of grain, fire and a hammer in your life? If no, what can you do to insure that it does?
Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
This
passage talks about memorizing scripture. How do you think that would
help you? What type of memorization routine can you begin?
Psalm 119:148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.
What does meditating on God's word and promises mean?
DAILY PRAYER
Psalm 63:1
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you,
my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no
water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
How does David feel about his prayer times with the Lord?
How do you feel about your prayer times?
Psalm 5:3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
Psalm 119:147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.
Mark
1:35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up,
left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
We learn several things about prayer from these passages.
1. The pattern is to pray in the morning before our day begins.
2. Jesus figured out the most opportune place to have an emotional connection with God.
3. Effective prayer comes with an expectation of God answering our prayers.
How are you doing in these three aspects of prayer?
Psalm 88:1-9 - 1
O
LORD, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. 2 May
my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. 3 For my soul is
full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. [c]4 I am
counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without
strength. 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the
grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. 6
You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. 7 Your wrath
lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. 8
You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to
them. I am confined and cannot escape; 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I
call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. My eyes
are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my
hands to you.
God helps us process our feelings
in prayer. As we share with God all of our feelings and ask for help,
God gives us perspective, direction and hope. What are you in the habit
of doing when you are discouraged? God wants to be there for us in
those times.
Each of us must develop a Godly daily pattern as to
our personal devotions to God. This pattern should include a great time
and place so that you can give God your full undivided attention. It
should also be in a place where you feel you can emotionally connect
with God. This may take some planning and energy but it will be well
worth it in the long run.
What has been your pattern in your daily devotions to God in the last month?
What excuses have you made if your times with God have not been great?
What are the roadblocks you will have to overcome to have a great daily pattern?
What sins do you need to repent of to have great times with God?
If your times with God have been good is there anything you would like to change to make them better as you start the new year?
What would be your ideal vision of how you want your daily relationship with God?
CHALLENGE: Develop a daily pattern, tell your discipling partner what it is and stick with it.
